The main issue that we come across whenever we link a server into our network is that they all use a main channel of #lobby. This has become a de-facto main channel for many a server as lazy example configuration writers lack any sort of imagination. When a server connects up to the network its users will mostly have auto-joins set to join #lobby where they will find people that they don't know and may not get along with. #lobby is also a very poor community name, as it associates itself with the network in a way that assumes ownership over the community rather than demonstrate the autonomy of the communities. To this affect we are closing #lobby and asking people to use #offtopic instead, we apologise for any inconvenience and hope you will continue to stick with leapnode as we grow.

You say you want to demonstrate the "autonomy of the communities" yet you chose to forcibly move the single community on which all of this was built to another channel. Even worse, instead of creating a channel for this Unerror/SMDC community, they were put in "#offtopic" without much thought or consideration.
Also, this was all done without prior announcement because of some supposed link that couldn't wait. A link which still hasn't happened, by the way.
It would've been a far better solution to create an #unerror or #smdc channel and post an announcement ASKING this particular community to move there, while noting that #lobby is a general chat channel not belonging to a specific community. Exactly what you have to do now anyway with #offtopic.
Ironically, the entire Unerror/SMDC community still lives in a general chat channel that other new communities will also use, a situation which has already been the source of exactly that which you're trying to avoid.
So in the end, you're stuck with a bunch of users who feel they aren't valued and "off-topic," and no progress towards the goal of avoiding tensions between new and old users in a general chat channel. From a usability standpoint, you also added an extra step for new users expecting an intuitive setup with a general chat channel at #lobby.

Also, it would make things more readable if newlines were converted to tags.

So has the real reason been announced yet?
I'm still waiting.

Noted Frank, and added to the list. Will fix. Also, good points. Bring them up in #leapnode during the daytime so we can talk about it
